Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride is a broad spectrum antibacterial substance and oral administration. It belongs to the group of fluoroquinolones, with which it shares most of its properties and medical applications.

This medicine is indicated in the infections caused by bacteria sensitive to its action, especially:

Urinary tract infection, including pyelonephritis and other infections of the urinary tract, acute or chronic prostatitis.
Respiratory tract infections pneumonia, sinusitis, chronic and acute bronchitis, and exacerbations of the chronic bronchitis
Skin infections
Bone and joint infections: Osteomyelitis, osteoarthritis
Complicated infections of the abdominal cavity : Used in conjunction with other antimicrobial 
Severe diarrhea: When indicated antibacterial drug treatment.
Sexually transmitted diseases: Gonorrhea in man and woman
Typhoid fever
Preventive treatment after exposure to Anthrax by inhalation
Indication for children: Complicated urinary tract infection. Only in very selected cases

The use in children under 18 should be considered exceptional, given the high risk of serious side effects, especially those related to the growth plate of long bones.

Delayed release dosage forms of ciprofloxacin are indicated only in urinary tract infections

Do not use ciprofloxacin

If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to ciprofloxacin or any of the other ingredients of the medicinal product prescribed to you. If you think may be allergic, ask your doctor.

Allergy symptoms may include:

- Asthma attacks with shortness of breath, audible wheezing or rapid breathing.
- More or less sudden swelling of the face, lips, tongue or elsewhere in the body. It is especially critical if it affects the vocal cords.
- Hives, itching, rash
- Anaphylactic shock (loss of consciousness, paleness, sweating, etc.).

Nor you should take this medicine:

If you suffer pain or inflammation of some sort in the calf area, paying particular attention to the Achilles' tendon. If this occurs, discontinue treatment, remain in complete rest and immediately tell your doctor.

If you have any alteration in the function of the kidneys, as your doctor will adjust the dose of ciprofloxacin.
