Clomiphene in Bodybuilding
Clomiphene citrate (Generic Clomid tablets) is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) is regularly used offlabel by bodybuilders upon completion of a steroid cycle as part of their post cycle therapy (PCT). Most of the anabolic steroids consumed by bodybuilders have a tendency to drastically slow down the body's own testosterone production. When a bodybuilder comes off a steroid cycle, natural testosterone production is almost zero and the amounts of the steroids taken in the blood are diminishing.
Clomiphene (Fertomid tablets) stimulates the hypothalamus which in turn stimulates the anterior pituitary gland to release gonadotrophic hormones. The gonadotrophic hormones are follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). FSH and LH stimulates the testes to produce more testosterone. This process results in an increase of the body's own testosterone production and blood levels also rise, partly to compensate for the diminishing levels of exogenous steroids. This is very important inorder to minimise post cycle muscle losses.
Fertomid tablets also work as an anti-estrogen and inhibits the effect of estrogen in breast tissue, limiting the possibility for gynecomastia. Clomiphene binds to oestrogen receptors on cells blocking them to estrogen in the blood. This minimises the negative effects like gynecomastia and water retention that can be a result of estrogen that has aromatised from testosterone.
