Fliban (Flibanserin Tablets) - Product Information

Fliban (Flibanserin Tablets) are used to treat premenopausal women with acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) as characterized by low sexual desire that causes marked distress or interpersonal difficulty.

Flibanserin tablets should not be used for the treatment of low sexual desire caused by a medical or mental/mood disorder, problems in the relationship, or the effects of other medicines. This medication should not be used by women who have passed through menopause, or by men. Flibanserin tablets are not used to enhance sexual performance. This medicine is also known as female libido pills and sex increase tablets for women.

Active Ingredient present in Fliban Tablets

The active ingredient present in Fliban tablets is Flibanserin. Each Fliban tablet contains 100 mg of the active ingredient Flibanserin.

Uses of Fliban Tablets (Generic Flibanserin)

Fliban (Generic Flibanserin Tablets)is used to treat women having low sexual desire and have not passed through menopause, who have not had problems with low sexual desire in the past, and who have low sexual desire no matter the type of sexual activity, the situation, or the sexual partner. This medicine enhances female libido and is also known as libido medication for women or female excitement pills.

Women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) have low sexual desire that is troubling them and their low sexual desire is not because of the following conditions: a medical or mental health problem, problems in the relationship and medicine or other drug use. HSDD is a medical condition where premenopausal women have low sexual desire-or low libido-that is troubling to them. Fliban is not for the treatment of HSDD in women who have gone through menopause or in men, or to improve sexual performance. Fliban is not for use in children.

Flibanserin Mechanism Of Action

The mechanism of action of Flibanserin involves regulation of several brain chemicals that could affect sexual desire in women, although the exact mechanism is unknown. Flibanserin is a post-synaptic 5HT1A receptor agonist and 5HT2A receptor antagonist and has action in the central nervous system. Flibanserin tablets correct an imbalance of dopamine and norepinephrine (both responsible for sexual excitement), while decreasing levels of serotonin which is responsible for sexual satiety/inhibition. Flibanserin ( Fliban Tablets) is not a hormonal medication and does not affect blood flow like the class of drugs approved for men with erectile dysfunction.

Flibanserin Tablets - Dosage

The recommended dosage of Flibanserin Tablets (Fliban) is 100 mg taken once daily at bedtime. Flibanserin is administered at bedtime because administration during waking hours increases risks of hypotension, syncope, accidental injury, and central nervous system (CNS) depression. Positive results can be expected earliest after three weeks. Discontinue therapy after 8 weeks in case there is no improvement.

Fliban Contraindications

Fliban tablets are contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to the active ingredient Flibanserin or any inactive ingredient present in tablets. Fliban tablets are also contraindicated in the following cases:

  • Alcohol as alcohol increases the risk of severe hypotension and syncope. Therefore alcohol use when using this medicine is contraindicated.
  • Moderate or strong cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) inhibitors as severe hypotension and syncope can occur when Fliban is used with moderate or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors
  • Hepatic impairment as severe hypotension and syncope can occur when Fliban is used in patients with hepatic impairment

 

Warnings and Precautions

The warnings and precautions to be taken when undergoing treatment with Fliban (Generic Flibanserin Tablets) are:

  • Hypotension and Syncope with Fliban Alone: Patients with pre-syncope should immediately lie supine and promptly seek medical attention in case the symptoms do not resolve.
  • Central Nervous System (CNS) Depression (e.g., Somnolence, Sedation): Can occur with Fliban alone. Exacerbated by other CNS depressants, and in settings where flibanserin concentrations are increased. Patients should avoid activities requiring full alertness (e.g., operating machinery or driving) until at least 6 hours after each dose and until they know how Fliban affects them.

 

Flibanserin Side Effects

Most common Flibanserin (Fliban tablets) side effects with an incidence rate of 2% or more are dizziness, somnolence, nausea, fatigue, insomnia, and dry mouth.

The risk of fainting, particularly when combined with alcohol, is a major concern.

Less common Fliban side effects reported in 1% or more of the patients treated with this medicine but less than 2% and at a higher incidence than with placebo included: Anxiety (Flibanserin 1.8%; placebo 1.0%), Constipation (Flibanserin 1.6%; placebo 0.4%), Abdominal pain (Flibanserin 1.5%; placebo 0.9%), Metrorrhagia (Flibanserin 1.4%; placebo 1.4%), Rash (Flibanserin 1.3%; placebo 0.8%), Sedation (Flibanserin 1.3%; placebo 0.2%), and Vertigo (Flibanserin 1%; placebo 0.3%).

During five trials of premenopausal women with HSDD, appendicitis was reported in 0.2% of Flibanserin-treated patients, while there were no reports of appendicitis in the placebo-treated patients.

Similarly, During trials of premenopausal women with HSDD, accidental injury was reported in 2.7% of Flibanserin Tablets-treated patients and 2.5% of placebo-treated patients.

Get emergency medical help in case you have signs of an allergic reaction to Fliban tablets: hives; severe dizziness, difficult breathing; rash, itching, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor immediately if you have: severe drowsiness; or a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out.

Flibanserin (Fliban Tablets) Overdosage

Overdosage of Flibanserin tablets could cause an increase in the incidence or severity of any of the reported side effects. Symptoms of overdose may include severe drowsiness, severe dizziness, fainting.

In the case of overdosage, treatment should address the symptoms and supportive measures, as needed. There is no known specific antidote for Flibanserin.

Flibanserin (Fliban Tablets) During Pregnancy

Flibanserin has been classified by the US FDA as US FDA pregnancy category Not Assigned. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. There are no studies of Flibanserin tablets in pregnant women to inform whether there is a drug-associated risk in humans. In animals, fetal toxicity only occurred in the presence of significant maternal toxicity including reductions in weight gain and sedation. Adverse reproductive and developmental effects consisted of decreased fetal weight, structural anomalies and increases in fetal loss at exposures greater than 15 times exposures achieved with the recommended human dosage.

Animal studies cannot rule out the potential for fetal harm. Do not use this medicine without your doctor's consent in case you are pregnant. Stop using this medication and inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during treatment.

Nursing Considerations

Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with this medicine. This medicine is excreted into animal milk. It is not known if this medicine is excreted into human milk. The effects on the breastfed infant and on milk production are not known.
Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
